Click to learn more about why we DO NOT adopt out single kittens

Believe it or not, single kittens are returned far more often than kittens adopted in pairs. This is because a kitten who grows up without another young feline companion is much more likely to develop behavioral issues that simply don’t occur when they have a buddy their own age. This is commonly known as Single Kitten Syndrome.

Single Kitten Syndrome refers to the frustration, anxiety, and energy imbalance that can develop when a kitten doesn’t have another kitten to play, wrestle, and learn boundaries with. Humans can provide love and enrichment, but we can’t mimic another kitten’s role in teaching bite inhibition, social skills, and how to play appropriately. Without this essential peer interaction, single kittens may become overly rough, destructive, prone to biting or scratching, excessively vocal, or clingy to the point of distress. It’s not that they are “bad cats” they simply never got the chance to learn the lessons that only another kitten or age approrpiate feline friend can teach.

By adopting kittens in pairs, we help them grow into confident, well-adjusted adults. They exercise each other, keep each other entertained, and develop healthy social behaviors that last a lifetime. Two kittens truly are easier than one, and giving them a same-age companion sets them up for a happier, more stable future—both in their new home and with the humans who love them.
